Second Half Offense Spurs Alvernia Past Albright, 5-2

Liberto Nets A Pair For Crusaders

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 23, 2013) - Alvernia University (9-6, 2-4) scored four goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half to spur a 5-2 win over crosstown rival Albright College (6-10, 2-4) Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference Field Hockey action at Alvernia.

The teams played to a 0-0 tie through the first half then the offenses kicked into gear after the break.

Freshman Alexis Krall (Annville, Pa./Annville Cleona) pushed home a rebound goal two minutes into the second half then assisted on two straight in the next five minutes.  Margaret Wentzel (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) drove home shot from right in front of the cage assisted by a Krall pass from the right endline and Summer Liberto (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) made it 3-0 finishing another Krall pass in the 43rd minute. 

Liberto's second of the game made it 4-0 Crusaders with 22 minutes left to play.

The Lions cut the deficit in half scoring twice, but Liberto set up Kyle Dillman (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) for the Crusaders' fifth and final goal to set the score at 5-2.

Erin Wunsch (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) recorded 10 saves in net for the Crusaders.

Alvernia returns to action Saturday when it travels to Lebanon Valley College for an important conference match with the Dutchmen.
