Elizabethtown Tops Alvernia, 5-1

Lowry Scores For Crusaders

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 9, 2013) - Elizabethtown College (8-3, 3-0) scored four goals in the second half in a 5-1 win over Alvernia University (7-4, 0-2) Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference field hockey action at Alvernia.

The Crusaders tied the game up at 1-1 with a goal on an untimed corner at the end of the first half.  Sophomore Emily Kelly (Westminster, Md./Seton Keough) took the insert near the top of the circle and ripped a shot that was tipped in my sophomore Melanie Lowry (Gap, Pa./Octorara).  Elizabethtown scored just over a minute into the second half then again seven minutes later.  The Blue Jays' leading scorer, Jacki Hikes, finished with a hat trick.

Alvernia freshman Becca Brosious (Drexel Hill, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) made nine saves.

Alvernia returns to action Saturday in a 7:00 p.m. game at Stevenson University.
