BOX SCORE

Owings Mill, Md. (Nov. 26, 2013) - Stevenson University (3-1, 1-0) shot 50 percent from the floor in a 75-52 win over Alvernia University (2-2, 0-1) Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Conference men's basketball action at Owings Mill Gymnasium.

It was a match-up of the top two teams in the preseason coaches poll that tilted heavily toward the home team from about midway through the opening half when the Mustangs got six straight points from Erik Fisher to take a 23-13 lead with 7:53 left in the half.

The Crusaders cut it back to six points following a tip-in from Brian Parker (Chichester, Pa./Chichester), but Stevenson put together a 16-5 run to push the lead to 17 points, 39-22, with a minute left in the half.  Parker scored again on the inside sending the game to the break with the Mustangs holding a 15-point lead.

Alvernia came out of the lockerroom scoring the first four points, but Stevenson answered with nine of the next 11 to push the lead to 18 points, 48-30, with 15 minutes left to play.

The Crusaders cut the gap down to 13 points on a handful of occasions, but got no closer.

Parker led the way with 15 points and 13 rebounds.  Lamont Clark (Parkesburg, Pa./Octorara) scored 11 points and Kahlil Bennett (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) added 10.  Stevenson had four players in double figures led by Alfonzo Hawkins who totaled 18.

The Crusaders look to rebound this Saturday at Penn State-Berks.
