Pair Of Runs Carry Crusaders Past Spartans, 89-55

Parker, Bennett, Deyo Lead Offense

York Pa. (Dec. 21, 2013) - Alvernia University (6-3) ran off a 25-7 first-half run then opened the second half with an 18-1 spurt on its way to an 89-55 win over York College (1-7) Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's basketball action at Charles Wolf Gymnasium.

The Crusaders were led by senior Brian Parker (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) who totalled a game-high 19 points.  Fellow senior Kahlil Bennett (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) hit 3-of-8 3-pointers and scored 18 points, and junior Harrison Deyo (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) finished with 17 points and three blocked shots.

Alvernia had a 7-6 lead early in the first and got a 3 from Chris Davis (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) to start the 25-7 run.  Bennett hit a pair of 3s on the run and Parker setup Deyo for a layup on the break that capped the run and had the guests up 32-13 with 8:42 left in the first half.

York worked hard to trim the gap down to 11 points at the break, 38-27.

Bennett, Lamont Clark (Parkesburg, Pa./Octorar), and Deyo all scored on layups to start the second half before a York free throw at the 18:04 mark.  The Spartans then went scoreless over the next four minutes while the Crusaders rattled off 12 straight points including seven from Parker.

Alvernia remained solidly in control the rest of the way.

Clark also reached double figures for the Crusaders with 10 points.  Davis finished with five assists and five steals.  The Spartans turned the ball over a season-high 28 times.

The Crusaders return home to host SUNY-Old Westbury on Monday, Dec. 30.
