Crusaders Top Muskingum, 10-3

Benusis Picks Up First Win

Ft. Myers, Fla. (Mar. 7, 2013) - Aaron Benusis (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) threw 6-plus innings without giving up a run and the offense scored in five of the first seven innings to lead Alvernia University (5-2) to a 10-3 win over Muskingum College (1-5) Thursday afternoon in non-conference baseball action.

The Crusaders got RBI singles from Chris Ray (Exton, Pa./Henderson), Matt Patterson (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham), Dustin Stuck (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra), Leon Stimpson (Philadelphia, Pa./Malvern Prep), and Richie Ricciardi (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) to take a 5-0 lead in the sixth.  Stimpson added the first 2-run hit of the game, a double to left in the sixth that put the Crusaders ahead 7-0.  Kevin Bailey (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) singled in a run in the seventh and Ricciardi followed with his own 2-run double for a 10-0 lead.

Muskingum scored all three of its runs in the eighth.

Benusis gave up five hits and two walks and struck out six.  He left in the seventh with the bases loaded an no one out, but Anthony Gambino (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) got him off the hook with a grounder that forced a runner at home, a strikeout, and a grounder to short.

Alvernia continues the spring break schedule with a doubleheader vs Wilmington (OH) on Friday.
