Crusaders Take Two From Wilmington To Close Spring Trip

Price Fans 11 In Six Innings In Game Two

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 Ft. Myers, Fla. (Mar. 8, 2013) - Alvernia University (7-3) closed out its Spring Break trip with a doubleheader sweep of Wilmington College (OH).  The Crusaders took the first game 4-0 behind junior Mike Weinhold (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) then got 11 strikeouts over six innings from sophomore Steve Price (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) in an 11-1 win in game two.

Weinhold went four innings in the opener and allowed just one hit and gave up one walk with four strikeouts.  Andrew Fisher (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) went two and two-thirds innings in relief of Weinhold and Kevin Becker-Menditto (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) came in with the tying run on deck and ended the game with a punchout.

Offensively Leon Stimpson (Philadelphia, Pa./Malvern Prep) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Chris Ray (Exton, Pa./Henderson) was 2-for-3 with a runs scored and a pair of RBIs.  Max Ramsey had two of the three base hits for Wilmington.

In game two Price struck out the side in the second and had three other innings with two strikeouts.  The Crusaders plated three runs in the first and four more in the second in support of Price.  Brock Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) delievered a two-run single in the second, and Ray had a two-run single in the fourth.  Martin and Ray both finished with two hits apiece.  Matt Patterson (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) went 3-for-3 wtih a run and three RBIs.

Alvernia returns home to face Rowan on Tuesday and open the conference schedule Friday at Stevenson.
