Ft. Myers, Fla. (Mar. 3, 2013) - Alvernia University (2-2) split a non-conference baseball doubleheader with Neumann University (5-2) Sunday afternoon in Floriday.  The Crusaders scored a pair of runs in the 10th inning to win the opener 4-2, then the Knights came back for a 4-1 win in the nightcap.

Senior Leon Stimpson (Philadelphia, Pa./Malvern Prep) drove in a pair of runs in the fifth inning of game one then delivered the game-winner run with an RBI and scored insurance in the 10th.  Jeremy Lewis (Bronx, N.Y./Mt. St. Michael Academy) doubled with one out in the 10th and scored on Stimpson's single.  Simpson stole second, advnaced to third on Chris Ray's (Exton, Pa./Henderson) single and scored on a single by Matt Patterson (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham).

Sophomore closer Kevin Becker-Menditto (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) went three and two-thirds innings in relief to get the win.  He entered the game in the seventh in the bases loaded and one out--with the potential winning run 90 feet away--and got out of the jam with a ground ball to third and a strikeout.  He worked around a walk in the 10th and finished with four Ks, a walk, and no hits.

In game two, junior Mike Weinhold (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Wesier) struck out 10 of the 17 batters he faced, and gave up just one run in four and a third innings.  Weinhold left after a two-out walk in the fifth, but the first batter to face reliever Cody Smith (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) was able to deliver with an RBI-triple.

Neumann tacked on two more in the sixth and a run in the seventh before Alvernia scored one in the home half of the seventh.  Dustin Stuck (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) singled with two outs, stole second and third, and scored on a Stimpson double.

Alvernia will face the Merchant Marine on Monday.
