2-Run Seventh Gets Rowan Past Alvernia, 6-4

Stimpson Drives In A Pair For Crusaders

Glassboro, N.J. (Apr. 17, 2013) - Rowan University (20-10) used a pair of run-scoring doubles to drive in the go-ahead run and an insurance run in the seventh inning of a 6-4 win over Alvernia University (23-9) Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Rowan.

Alvernia took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a 2-run single off the bat of leadoff hitter Leon Stimpson (Philadelphia, Pa./Malvern Prep), but the Profs answered right back in the home half of the second getting back-to-back 2-out base hits to knot the score at 2-2 through two.

Alvernia took a 3-2 lead in the third on an RBI single by Chris Gehris (Sinking Spring, Pa./Holy Name), but an inning later the Profs put up another 2-run inning for a 4-3 lead.

Alvernia catcher Kevin Bailey (Fallston, Md./Fallston) led off the sixth with a double and came around on Stimpson's third RBI of the game to tie the score at 4-4.

The Crusaders had two on with one out in the top of the seventh, but failed to score.  Rowan took the 6-4 lead with the two run-scoring doubles in the bottom of the seventh.

Stimpson finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBIs.  Bailey was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.  Cody Smith (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) gave up the two runs in the seventh and suffered his first loss of the season.

The Crusaders return to the conference schedule on Friday opening a 3-game, weekend series with Albright College on Friday at Albright.
