Glenside, Pa. (Apr. 26, 2013) - The top five players in the Alvernia University (28-9, 16-3) lineup delivered eight of the team's nine RBIs in a 9-5 win over Arcadia University (21-14-1, 12-7) Friday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference baseball action at Erny Field.

The Crusaders clinch the top seed in next week's Commonwealth Championship and will know their first round opponent after tomorrow's doubleheaders.

Arcadia took an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Crusaders put up four in the top of the second.  Batting ninth, Brian Witkowski (Ewing, N.J./Notre Dame) delivered an RBI-single to get Alvernia on the board and back at the top of the order Leon Stimpson (Philadelphia, Pa./Malvern Prep) followed with another RBI-single and Chris Ray (Exton, Pa./West Chester Henderson) drove in two with a single up the middle.

Ray singled to open the fourth inning and Billy Turner (Columbia, N.J./North Warren Regional) followed with his fourth homer of the year, a 2-run shot that put Alvernia back on top 6-4.

Arcadia opened the bottom of the fourth with a leadoff double which brought freshman reliever Matt Osgoodby (Manasquan, N.J./Wall) in from the pen.  Osgooby got a ground out then gave up an RBI-single.  He loaded the bases before ending the frame with a pop out to first.  He worked around a 2-out walk in the fifth throwing two innings to pick up his second win of the season.

Alvernia tacked on three more runs in the eighth, the big blow a two-run single off the bat of Chris Gehris (Sinking Spring, Pa./Holy Name).  Ray, Turner, and Gehris finished with two RBIs each.  Cody Younker (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) had three hits and a pair of stolen bases.

Alvernia and Arcadia finish up the 3-game series Saturday in Reading.  There are still five teams alive for the last three spots in the post season.
