BOX SCORE
Wilkes Barre, Pa. (Sept. 22, 2013) - For the second time in five days Alvernia University (5-2) overcame a second-half, multi-goal deficit to steal victory from the jaws of defeat. Sunday afternoon the Crusaders scored three goals in the final 27 minutes to take a 3-2 win over Wilkes University (2-5).
The Colonels scored six minutes into the second half for a 2-0 lead, but Alvernia responded with a penalty stroke from
Alexis Klopp (Bernville, Pa./Tulpehocken) two minutes later. The Crusaders netted the game-tying goal in the 50th minute when
Melanie Lowry (Gap, Pa./Octorara) finished a feed from Klopp, and scored the winner with three minutes to play when Klopp's shot was tipped in by
Natalie Messaros (Oxford, Pa./Oxford).
Rebecca Brosious (Drexel Hill, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) made nine saves to earn the win.
Alvernia finished up a three-game road series with the conference opener next Saturday at preseason favorite Messiah College.
