BOX SCORE Annville, Pa. (Jan. 4, 2013) - Lebanon Valley (4-6, 2-2) scored 50 points after the break including a 21-for-21 effort from the free throw line in the second half en route to an 89-81 win over Alvernia University (7-4, 2-2) Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference men's basketball action at LVC Gymnasium.
The Dutchmen trailed by four at halftime, 43-39, and took their first lead of the second half, 61-60, with 8:25 left in the game. They shot 58 percent from the floor hitting 13-of-20 shots including 3-of-6 3-pointers. Freshman Zach Mrozek didn't play a minute in the first half but hit 5-of-7 shots in the second half and doubled his previous career best with 16 points.
Alvernia senior
Chris Davis (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) hit three 3s in the first half and led the way with 13 points over the first 20 minutes.Â
Brian Parker (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) added 10 first-half points.
The Crusaders built a 9-point lead, 55-46, on a
Kahlil Bennett (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) 3 with 13:25 left to play, but the hosts hit 8-of-9 shots from the floor over the next 7-plus minutes turning in a 23-7 run to take a 69-61 lead with 5:57 to play.
Alvernia couldn't get closer than five points the rest of the way with the Dutchment hitting 12 free throws over the final 2:18 to seal the win.
Parker finished with a team-high 26 points and 10 rebounds. Davis ended with 17 points and
Harrison Deyo (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) totaled 15 points.
The Crusaders return home to play Hood College on Wednesday.
