Wollaston Scores Twice, Crusaders Top Stevenson, 2-1

Alvernia Moves Into A Tie For Third

Owings Mill, Md. (Oct. 25, 2014) - Senior Josh Wollaston scored twice to lead Alvernia University (9-6-2, 3-2-1) to a 2-1 win over Stevenson University (10-6-2, 1-3-2) Saturday evening in Commonwealth Conference men's soccer action at Stevenson.

The Crusaders stay even with Arcadia Univeristy (10 pts) in tie for third place in the league with a week to go in the regular season.  The nation's #1 Messiah College (16 pts) had the day off and remains in first place.  Only three points separate second place and sixth--the first place out of the playoffs.

Lycoming College (12 pts) earned a 1-0 win on the road at Hood to move into second place and drop the Blazers (9 pts) down to a tie for fifth with Widener University.

Alvernia will close the season with a pair of home games this week hosting Messiah on Tuesday and Hood College on Saturday.  The postseason begins with the 5 vs 4 first round game on Tuesday, November 4, and a pair of semifinals that Thursday.

At Stevenson on Saturday, Wollaston opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a rip from the top of the box.  The Mustangs leveled the score in the 63rd minute, but Wollaston responded just 10 minutes later gathering a defelction near the back post and netting the game-winner.

The senior playmaker now has five goals in three career games against the Mustangs.  Saturday marked the fourth multi-goal game of his career.

Freshman goalie Zach Rider wasn't credited with a save in the win as the Crusaders held the Mustangs to just four shots.
