BOX SCORE Huntingdon, Pa. (Oct. 8, 2014) - Juniata College (9-2) netted three second-half goals to pick up a 4-2 win over Alvernia University (6-6) Wednesday evening in non-conference action at Juniata.
The Crusaders made the most of their shots in the first half.
Margaret Wentzel put Alvernia on the board in the 17th minute, driving in the follow up after a shot by
Natalie Messaros to give Wentzel her 13th goal of the season and Alvernia the 1-0 lead. Juniata quickly responded, netting the equilizer as Juniata forward Sarah Bilheimer got tangled up with Crusader goalie
Erin Wunsch for the 1-1 tie.
Alvernia pushed ahead before half as Messaros and Wentzel paired up for the second goal. In the 30th minute, Wentzel set up Messaros who notched her third goal of the season while giving the Crusaders the 2-1 advantage.
Juniata capitalized on its shots in the second half, scoring three unanswered goals to take the 4-2 lead over Alvernia.
The Crusaders ripped five goals per half while Wunsch had eight saves on the night.
Alvernia continues its road stint on Saturday, traveling to Hood College for Commonwealth Conference action.
