Crusaders Top Cavaliers, 3-1

BOX SCORE Reading, Pa. (Nov. 1, 2014) - Alvernia University (12-7) closed its regular season schedule with a 3-1 victory over Cabrini College (12-4) Saturday morning on the Alvernia Turf Field.

The Crusaders opened the scoring on the day, netting the only goal of the first half. In the 19th minute, Andrea Wysocki ripped her first goal of the season to the back of the net off a pass to the post by Paige Epler for the 1-0 lead.

The Cavaliers tied the game 1-1 early in the second half as Taylor Mack put Cabrini on the board with a shot to the right corner. Alvernia did not let the tie sit for long, taking back the lead within 20 seconds. Off the center start after Cabrini's goal, Natalie Messaros led the Crusaders down the field before finding Margaret Wentzel on the right side, who rocketed her 22nd goal of the season past Cavalier goalie Taylor Bookman to capture the 2-1 lead.

Alvernia extended its lead with five minutes left in the game. At 65:14, Wysocki pushed a waist-high pass across the front of the net, finding Summer Liberto on the right post for the tap in into the lower right corner and the 3-1 margin.

Senior Erin Wunsch picked up the win in goal, with three saves on the day.

The Crusaders open post-season play on Wednesday, entering the MAC Commonwealth Conference playoffs as the #2 seed. Alvernia will host 3-seed Lebanon Valley College in semi-final action. Alvernia beat LVC earlier in the season 4-0. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
