Reading, Pa. (Nov. 12, 2014) - Alvernia University (13-9) was unable to break through the defense of Misericordia University (14-8), falling 1-0 in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic field hockey quarterfinals Wednesday night on the Alvernia Turf Field.
The Cougars posted their lone goal of the night just before the end of the first half. Emily Hegner gathered a shot deflection off the left post and pushed the go ahead into the back of the goal.
Alvernia had two close scoring opportunities in the second half, beating Misericordia goalie Angela Pasquini in the 51st and 58th minutes. However, the Cougars used defensive shifts to keep the Crusaders out of the net.
The Crusaders outshot Misericordia 15-3, ripping ten shots in the second half. Alvernia also bettered the Cougers in corners with a 14-10 advantage.
