Late Rally Gets Immaculata Past Alvernia, 65-62

Clark, Deyo Score 15 Each

Immaculata, Pa. (Dec. 18, 2014) - Immaculata University (4-4) used a 10-0 run to close out a 65-62 win over Alvernia University (4-4) Thursday evening in non-conference men's basketball action at Alumnae Gymnasium.

The Crusaders got a team-high 15 points from seniors Harrison Deyo and Lamont Clark.

Immaculata built a six point lead early in the first half, but Alvernia quickly erased that and the teams settled for a 29-all tie at the halftime break.

Alvernia used a 7-0 spurt midway through the second half to build a nine point lead, 54-45, with just over nine minutes left to play.  The lead remained seven points, 62-55, with 4:27 left to play when Clark scored on a layup, but it was the last bucket of the game for the Crusaders who went 0-for-7 from the floor down the stretch.

Immaculata hit back-to-back 3s to cut the deficit down to one point with three minutes still left in the game then Mamadou Diakite scored on a layup to give the hosts a 63-62 lead with 1:55 to play.  Diakite finished with a game-high 21 points for the Mighty Macs.

Immaculata missed four straight free throws with a chance to build the lead to two possessions, but Alvernia couldn't capitalize at the other end.  Diakite finally hit a free throw with five seconds left for a three point lead, and Alex Shippen's attempt to tie from the arc was off the mark at the buzzer.

The Crusaders return home to host Dickinson College on Monday.
