Emory, Virginia (Dec. 30, 2014) - Emory & Henry (5-5) scored the first 14 points of the game and lead wire-to-wire in a 71-60 win over Alvernia University (5-5) Tuesday afternoon in the championship game of the Comfort Inn Holiday Women's Basketball Tournament at Emory & Henry.
Alvernia missed its first 12 shots from the field while Emory & Henry put 14 points on the board over a six and a half minute span. The Crusaders scored their first points of the game when freshman
Olivia Andrefski hit a 3 at 13:11.Â
Tyra Roberts scored on the next Alvernia possession to pull within nine, 14-5, but the Crusaders couldn't get any closer the rest of the way.
Emory & Henry's first half lead grew to as many as 18 points, and the Wasps settled for a 12 point lead at the break, 34-22.
Alvernia got a 3 from
Chelsea Ebersole to open the second half and pull back to within nine points, 34-25, but the Crusaders hit another cold spell while the Wasps scored 10 straight for a 44-25 lead. The lead hit it's greatest point, 21 points at 52-31 with 13:01 to play.
Roberts led the Crusaders with 15 points and 14 rebounds and Andrefski scored 13 points.
Alvernia returns to the conference schedule at Messiah on Saturday.
