Owings Mill, Md. (Mar. 16, 2014) - Alvernia University (8-2, 2-0) got solid outings from senior
Mike Weinhold (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) and junior
Steve Price (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) in a doubleheader sweep of Stevenson University (4-3, 0-2) Sunday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference baseball action at Stevenson.
Weinhold went six innings and allowed a run on three hits with 10 strikeouts as the Crusaders cruised to a 14-1 win in the opener. Price went 6 2/3 innings in game two allowing three runs on seven hits. He was clean through six innings giving up just two hits, but surrendered three runs on five hits and left with the runners on first and second and the tying run at the plate.
Junior closer
Kevin Becker-Menditto (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) balked the runners up then picked off the trail runner to end the game and earn his second save of the season.
Three batters had 3-hit games in the opener.Â
Richie Ricciardi (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.Â
Matt Patterson (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) was 3-for-5 with four runs scored, and
Chris Burns (Cherry Hill, N.J./Holy Cross) was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.Â
Jason Clapper (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) was 2-for-5 with four RBIs.
In game two, Patterson went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and
Dustin Arnold (Annville, Pa./Lebanon Catholic) was also 4-for-4 at the plate.
The teams finish up the 3-game series Monday in Reading.
