5-Run Frame Costs Crusaders In 8-7 Loss To Heidelberg

BOX SCORE

Ft. Myers, Fl. (Mar. 8, 2014) - Heidelberg College (6-2) scored five runs on three hits and an error in the seventh inning then broke a tie score with a run in the eighth for a 8-7 win over Alvernia University (0-2) Saturday afternoon in non-conference baseball action.

Alvernia scored a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, three in the sixth, and one more in the seventh to take a 7-2 lead, but saw it all evaporate when Heidelberg plated five in the seventh.

Heidelberg scored the game-winner in the eighth on a walk, a stolen base, and an RBI double.  Alvernia junior Dustin Stuck (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) singled with one out in the ninth to bring the go-ahead run to the plate, but Heidelberg shut down the threat with a strikeout and a foul out.

Stuck went 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs.  Richie Ricciardi (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) was 4-for-5 at the plate.

The Crusaders continue the spring break trip with a pair against Hiram on Sunday.
