Offense Carries Alvernia To 13-4 Win Over Gwynedd-Mercy

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 1, 2014) - Alvernia University (14-5) scored in every inning but the fifth in a 13-4 win over Gwynedd-Mercy College (9-7) Tuesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Angelica Park.

Richie Ricciardi (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) posted the biggest day for the offense going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs.  Zach Nadolny (Sparks, Md./Bel Air) went five innings to pick up his first win of the season.  He surrendered three runs on six hits with four strikeouts.

Alvernia set the tone in the bottom of the first when Ricciardi, Matt Patterson (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham), and Chris Gehris (Sinking Spring, Pa./Holy Name) ripped three straight two-out doubles for an early 2-0 lead.  Mike Weinhold (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) and Gehris delivered sacrifice flies in the second and third innings, and Dan George (Delran, N.J./Delran) delivered a 2-run single during a 4-run sixth.

The Crusaders continue a heavy week of rescheduled games hosting Rowan on Wednesday at 3:30.  They return to conference action hosting Elizabethtown on Friday.
