Aaron Benusis (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) allowed just one run on five hits over seven innings and the offense pushed across 20 runs as Alvernia University (22-10) defeated Manhattanville (16-12) by a 20-1 final Monday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Manhattanville.
The Crusaders scored three runs on two hits in the first inning then exploded for seven runs on seven hits in the second inning to take an early 10-0 lead.
The lead was 14-0 in the fifth before the Valiants finally got on the board in the home half of the fifth.
Benusis recorded 11 strikeouts on the day before turning the ball over to
Matt Osgoodby (Manasquan, N.J./Wall) who allowed just one hit over the final two innings.
Twelve different players had at least one hit for the Crusaders led by
Jason Clapper (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) who went 3-for-5 with a season-high five RBIs and
Zach Nadolny (Sparks, Md./Bel Air) who was 3-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBIs.
Alvernia faces Moravian College on Wednesday before wrapping up the conference schedule this weekend vs. Arcadia.
