Crusaders Split A Pair At Etown

Weinhold Earns Opening Game Win

Elizabethtown, Pa. (Apr. 6, 2014) - Alvernia Univeristy (16-6, 9-3) split a Commonwealth Conference baseball doubleheader at Elizabethtown (10-10, 4-6) Sunday afternoon.

Senior Mike Weinhold (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) went the distance in the opener scattering six hits with 13 strikeouts over seven innings and getting the win in a 2-0 game.  Alvernia plated its first run in the third inning when Brok Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) reached on an erorr and Joe Iacobellis (Morganville, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) scored.  The Crusaders tacked on a run in the seventh on an RBI-double from Chris Burns (Cherry HIll, N.J./Holy Cross).

Etown got three runs on nine hits of game two starter Steve Price (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) for a 3-2 win.  Dustin Stuck (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) delivered the only runs for the Crusaders on a 2-run double in the second.

Alvernia plays a pair of non-conference games on the road this week at the College of New Jersey and Haverford before starting a 3-game conference series at Lebanon Valley next Friday.
