Zach Rider made a pair of saves in his first career shutout as Alvernia University (1-0) bettered Immaculata University (0-1) Friday evening in non-conference men's soccer action at Alvernia.
Elgogari skimmed home a header in the 13th minute on a corner kicked served by senior
Josh Wollaston. Martyn carried down the left flank 13 minutes later making quick, individual work of a pair of Mighty Mac defenders before curling a well-placed shot into the far side netting.
Rider made one fairly straightforward save in the first half then a brilliant lunging save to preserve the shutout in the 68th minute.
The Crusaders held the balance of possession and saw 10 players get time off the bench. The hosts ripped off 17 shots and earned six corner kicks. Immaculata goalie Michael Thompson made three saves for the Mighty Macs.
Alvernia hits the road on Tuesday for a non-conference game at Gwynedd-Mercy.
