Reading, Pa. (Nov. 24, 2015) - Alvernia University (3-1) dominated offensively, collecting an overpowering 95-36 victory over Penn State Berks (0-3) Tuesday evening in women's basketball non-conference action on Jack McCloskey Court.
Senior
Chelsea Ebersole helped lead the way for the Crusaders, breaking the career 3-point record at 204 made 3's while collecting a team and season high 19 points.
Morgan Downs paired with Ebersole for the team high, netting 11 of her career high 19 points in the second half.
The Crusaders opened the game with a
Jenna Wolff 3 and never looked back.
Logan Focht added a pair from behind the arc to give Alvernia a strong 13-4 lead just five minutes into the contest. Wolff put away a 3 and a tip in to increase the Crusaders margin, and
Miranda Hoover and Downs extended Alvernia's lead to 25-9 at the end of the first period.
The second quarter was much like the first, with
Stevie Fortna opening the scoring from downtown. Alvernia was unstoppable from the floor, outscoring the Lions 28-6 to take a 52-15 lead into the half.
Ebersole, who made her career setting 3 to close out the second period, paired with
Tyra Roberts in the first six minutes of the second half for eight points to put the Crusaders up 60-18. Down then went on a run of her own, picking up 5 uninterrupted points.
Ahead 67-21, Alvernia continued its strong offensive evening through the final quarter.
Kim Whelan was a huge contributor for the Crusaders across the game, running a solid point to set up clear looks for her teammates.
Alvernia finished the evening with five players in double digit scoring. In addition to 19 each by Ebersole and Downs,
Olivia Andrefski and
Logan Focht tallied 11 a piece, while
Jenna Wolff picked up 10.
Miranda Hoover had a team-high 13 rebounds, with Ebersole earning the double-double with 11 rebounds.
