Strong Second Half Leads Lebanon Valley Past Alvernia, 74-62

Marshall Tallies 22 In Debut

Reading, Pa. (Dec. 21, 2015) - Lebanon Valley College (7-4, 3-1) scored 17 of the first 20 points in the second half and shot 59 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes of a 74-62 win over Alvernia University (5-4, 1-2) Monday evening in MAC Commonwealth Men's Basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.

The Crusaders used a 10-0 run to close the first half and take a 32-27 lead into the locker room, but the Dutchmen went into Will Boccanfusco for a bucket in the paint on their second possession after the break then got a putback, 3-point play from Zack Mrozek to cut the gap to one.  Boccanfusco scored on the fast break to give the guests the lead they never relinquished.

Boccanfusco hit 9-of-10 shots from the field and scored a team-high 20 points as four of five starters reached double figures for the Dutchmen and six players accounted for all but one point.  Alvernia got a game-high from Marquis Marshall who made his Crusaders debut.  Charles Cooper scored 13, and Alex Shippen reached double figures with 11.

The Crusaders were just 10-for-31 from the floor over the first 18 minutes of the first half, but hit three of their last four shots including a 3 from Mike Miller with three seconds left in the half.  The streak didn't continue in the second half as the hosts went 9-of-30 from the floor--including 2-for-10 from the 3-point arc--while the guests dropped 16-of-27 second-half shots.

Alvernia clawed back to within five points with 6:40 to go, 57-52, on a 3 from Marshall, but LVC answered with 11 straight to put the game out of reach.

The Crusaders are off for the Christmas break and return to the floor December 31, hosting Gettysburg at 2:00 in the afternoon.
