Candace Knight led Alvernia University (3-2) with five goals to give the Crusaders a 16-5 victory over Wesley College (4-5) in women's lacrosse action on Monday afternoon.
The Crusaders scored early and often to start the contest. Knight, who entered the game with four goals on the season, scored the first goal of the game a little more than two minutes in. The Crusaders scored four goals in five minutes before the Wolverines collected their first.
Alvernia scored in groups across the first half, answering every Wolverine goal by increasing its lead. The Crusaders consistently found the net, taking an 11-4 advantage at the half.
Knight was not the only Crusader to get involved in the scoring, as
Abby McCarthy netted four goals and
Julie Sutton collected three.
Brooke Campione helped fuel the offense on the day, picking up four assists.
The Crusaders came up big defensively as well, forcing the Wolverines to commit 23 turnovers compared to the Crusaders 15.
Goalies Colleen Rilley and
Kallie Taylor split time in the net. Reilly picked up on the win while Taylor had a shutout in the second half, making three saves.
The Crusaders start Commonwealth Conference action on Wednesday, hosting Arcadia University on the turf field at 4:00 pm.
