Scranton, Pa. (Mar. 30, 2015) - Alvernia University (5-3) used strong performances from Abby McCarthy, Angel Adams and Brooke Campione to defeat Marywood University (5-4) 14-5 and end Marywood's five game winning streak in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Monday afternoon at Marywood.
Campione led the way with six points, netting five with an assist. McCarthy also finished the game with six points on two goals and four assists. Adams notched four goals on the day, moving her up to 19 goals on the season.
Jacquelyn Strange added two goals for the Crusaders, while Jenna Harper picked up her first goal of the season.
Alvernia dominated Marywood offensive, outshooting Marywood 35-16 with 25 shots on goal. The Crusaders also had a large margin in groundballs, collecting 32 to Marywood's 21.
Goalie Colleen Reilly had solid outing for the Crusaders, recording four saves while only allowing four goals to pick up her fifth win of the season. Kallie Taylor saw some valuable minutes in goal as well, saving two shots while only allowing one goal.
The Crusaders return to Commonwealth Conference competition on Wednesday, facing Widener University on the Turf Field at 7:00. Widener enters Wednesday's game with an overall record of 3-4 and 1-1 in-conference. The Crusaders defeated Widener 12-8 in their only meeting last season.
