Reading, Pa. (Apr. 17, 2015) - Alvernia University (24-8, 13-3) scored double digit runs for the ninth time this season and opened the 3-game series with Albright College (11-14-1, 7-9) with a 10-1 win Friday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference baseball action at Kelchner Field.
The Crusaders scored five runs in the sixth to push ahead to a comfortable 8-1 lead. Senior
Zach Nadolny went 3-for-4 at the plate with five RBIs and smashed a 2-run homer to center in the third. Sophomore
Ryan Sheekey was very effective going seven innings scattering eight hits and allowing just one run.Â
Craig Mellinger wrapped up the fianl two innings allowing three hits without a run.
Mike Cunningham opend the scoring in the second with a single up the middle that scored
Ben Sawyer. Nadolny's shot in the third scored
Cameron Coons who was hit by a pitch.
Albright got the first two runners on in the fifth with a walk and bunt then back-to-back sacrifices brought in the Lions' first run of the game.
The Crusaders blew things open in the sixth scoring five times on four hits while taking advantage of three Albright errors. Sawyer, Coons, and Nadolny all had run-scoring hits in the inning.
Alvernia and Albright continue the series Saturday at Angelica Park.
