Galloway, NJ (Apr. 18, 2015) - Alvernia University (15-13) went one and one at Stockton University (15-13), dropping game one 6-1 before taking the nightcap 6-0 in non-conference action.
In the first game of the day, Stockton claimed the 2-0 lead in the second.
Alvernia narrowed the gap 2-1 in the top of the fourth.
Shannon Grim opened the inning with a double and was quickly plated on an RBI single by
Aly Shilling.
Stockton quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning, extending its lead 4-1. The Ospreys would add two more in the fifth for the 6-1 win.
In the nightcap, Alvernia got the bats going early, posting all six runs in the first two innings.
Brianna DePriest gave the Crusaders their first runner on the game on a hard ground ball to short from the leadoff spot, and advanced to second on a passed ball.
Felicia McKenna put DePriest on third on a fielder's choice and Grim crossed her on a single for the 1-0 lead. Shilling followed with a single of her own to give Alvernia two one, and
Amanda Turner roped a double to plate Grim and Shilling. Turner moved up to third on
Taylor Thomas groundout, and put the Crusaders ahead 4-0 in the first on a wild pitch.
Alvernia picked up its other two runs in the second. After
Stephanie Mancuso reached on a fielder's choice, she quickly came around to score on a DePriest double. DePriest wasn't on base long, putting Alvernia up 6-0 on a double by McKenna.
The Crusaders shut down the Osprey offensively as
Brianna Fisher picked up the win on the mound, allowing just four hits and one walk in seven innings of work.
Alvernia returns to the field on Tuesday, hosting Ursinus College at 3:30.
