Reading, Pa. (May 10, 2015) - Alvernia University (19-19-1) finished its 2015 season on Saturday, falling twice in the ECAC South tournament at Bethany College.
In game one, the Crusaders and the Cougars fought to a deadlock until the sixth when Misericordia put together a string of doubles to capture a 4-0 lead. Alvernia put runners on in five of the seven innings, but where unable to plate a run. Hitting leaders in the game included
Brianna Kuhn, who used a single and a walk to lead off two separate innings, and
Amanda Turner, who led off the fourth with a single.
Taylor Fouracre suffered the tough loss on the mound, allowing six hits in 5.1 innings of work, but striking out a season-high six batters.
In the nightcap elimination game, Bethany College posted runs in four separate innings to take a 7-1 victory over Alvernia.
The Crusaders posted their lone run in the fifth.
Mckenzie Miessau gave Alvernia its scoring runner with one out, hitting a single to right and capilizing on a fielding error to advance up to third.
Brianna DePriest extended the inning, reaching after being hit by a pitch.
Felicia McKenna delivered the RBI shot, singling to center.
Alvernia completes its season collecting post-season appearances in both the MAC Conference playoffs and the ECAC Championships. The Crusaders had four post-season award recipients, including DePriest who was named MAC Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference, and Second Team NFCA All-Region. Joining DePriest in MAC Conference Awards are Fouracre and
Shannon Grim, who were named Honorable Mention, and
Aly Shilling who was named Second Team.
