Allison Hyde netted a pair of goals to help lift Alvernia University (5-9, 2-2) to a 4-1 victory over Hood College (2-10-1, 0-5) Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's soccer action on Alvernia's Turf Field.
The Crusaders posted their first goal just 15 seconds into the contest. On the opening possession,
Jess Bernd put a quick cross to
Erica Dunkelberger on the left post, who tapped in her third of the season for the 1-0 advantage.
Alvernia pushed its lead to 2-0 in the 32
nd minute as the Crusaders capitalized again on strong offense from the left side. Hyde put away her second collegiate goal, taking the set-up from
Lauren Gough and driving it to the back of the net.
Hood cut its deficit to one with three minutes left in the first half.
With 28 minutes left in the contest,
Maria Petrongolo tacked on an insurance goal on a PK opportunity. Petrongolo buried the 3-1 go ahead into the back left corner, just out of reach of Hood goalie Rachel Knoebel.
Hyde struck again in the 79
th minute, netting the rebound of a
Kayla McNamee shot to secure the 4-1 lead.
Plunkett earned the win in goal for the Crusaders, collecting three saves.
Alvernia returns to action on Tuesday, continuing MAC Commonwealth play as it hosts Widener University at 7:00 p.m.
