BOX SCORE Reading, Pa. (Oct. 3, 2016) - Alvernia University's Field Hockey Team partnered with Go4TheGoal to dedicate Saturday's MAC Commonwealth matchup against Lebanon Valley College to local children with cancer.
Go4TheGoal was founded in 2006 with the unwavering mission is to improve the lives of children battling cancer by providing financial support, developing and implementing unique hospital programs, funding innovative research, and granting personal wishes. Through its first hand experience with pediatric cancer and its medical background, Go4theGoal provides the best practices to patients, their families, and the hospitals and staff that care for them.
In 2011, Go4TheGoal introduced its Laced Up program, encouraging teams across the country in every sport from youth to professional to wear gold laces.
Alvernia joined the cause in September, selling gold laces in the dining hall in the weeks leading up to Saturday's game. Each pair of laces was sold for $5.00, with $4.00 from each pair of laces going back to helping kids with cancer and their families.
On the day of the contest, the Crusaders not only sold more laces, but also raffled off a fall basket of goodies and collected donations. All proceeds from the raffle basket were given to the cause.
Alvernia's efforts greatly helped Go4TheGoal as the field hockey team raised a total of $548.
