First Half Goals Lift Alvernia Past Stevenson, 2-1

Owings Mill, MD (Oct. 22, 2016) – Alvernia University (4-10-1, 3-2-1) used a pair of first half goals to claim a 2-1 victory over Stevenson University (3-11-3, 2-4) Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth Men's Soccer action at Stevenson.

The Crusaders posted their first goal eight minutes into the contest, capitalizing on a corner kick. Jay Ringer delivered the feed to Chris Guth, who put away his second of the season for a 1-0 advantage.

Alvernia benefitted from a Mustang miscue eight minutes later as a Stevenson own goal gave the Crusaders a 2-0 lead.

The Crusaders kept the Mustangs off the board for 89 minutes, with Stevenson netting its lone goal with just 40 seconds left in regulation.

Zach Rider earned the save in goal for Alvernia, collecting six saves.

With the win, the Crusaders sit in a 3-way tie for third place in the conference standings with two conference games remaining.
