Reading, Pa. (Oct. 25, 2016) – Stevenson University (23-7, 8-0) took a 3-1 win at Alvernia University (9-16, 1-6) Tuesday evening in MAC Commonwealth women's volleyball action at the Physical Education Center.
Stevenson powered through the first set jumping out to a 13-4 lead on its way to a 25-11 win. The Crusaders battled back in the second set taking an early 11-5 lead with
Emily Smith serving four straight points.
Stevenson answered with a run of its own and took its first lead of the set at 16-15. The Mustangs held a 20-18 lead, but Alvernia got three straight on Smith's serve to take a 22-20 lead. Alvernia held a 24-23 lead but couldn't put away the set on its first chance and Stevenson scored three straight for a 26-24 win at a 2-0 lead.
Alvernia faced a 16-15 deficit in set #3 and ran off three straight points for a 18-16 lead. Then after sharing side outs, another three for the home team put the Crusaders up 23-18
McKenna Achenbach put away a kill to close out a 25-21 win for the Crusaders to make the match score 2-1.
Alvernia took a 13-7 lead in the fourth set looking for level the match, but Stevenson put together a 17-3 run on its way to a 25-18 win in the deciding set.
Alvernia travels to Albright to close out the conference schedule on Thursday then wraps up the season Saturday at Elizabethtown.
