Williams, Marshall Carry Crusaders Past Berks, 95-65

Reading, Pa. (Nov. 22, 2016) – Sophomore George Williams scored a game-high 25 points and senior Marquis Marshall recorded a monster double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds leading Alvernia University (3-1) to a 95-65 win over Penn State-Berks (0-2) Tuesday evening in non-conference men's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.

The Crusaders opened up a 16-6 lead seven minutes into the game and coasted to victory.  Alex Shippen reached double figures for the Crusaders with 17, and Mike Miller, Jr. added 13.

Williams and Marshall scored 11 each in the first half leading the Crusaders to a 47-28 lead at the break.  Alvernia shot 47 percent from the floor in the first half and limited the Lions to just 26 percent, including a 1-for-12 effort from the arc.

Berks put together a 14-3 run over the first five minutes of the second half to cut the Alvernia lead down to eight points, 50-42, but Marshall scored in the paint, Miller, Jr. hit a 3, and Shippen capped a run of seven straight for the Crusaders pushing the lead back to 15.

The lead hit 30 points, 91-61 with 2:32 left, the same spread at the final horn.

Alvernia returns to action next Wednesday following the Thanksgiving break and will open the conference schedule at Hood College.
