Owings Mills, Md. (Mar. 22, 2016) - Alvernia University (8-8, 2-1) crushed five home runs in a 10-4 win over Stevenson University (8-10, 1-2) to grab the rubber match with the Mustangs Tuesday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth baseball action at Stevenson.
Senior designated hitter
Chris Burns hit a solo homer in the first inning to put the Crusaders up 1-0 ealry.Â
Ian Shaffer and
Connor Boyle both homered in the second inning, and Burns and
Ben Dubas went deep in the fourth.
The impressive power display was half way to the Crusaders single-game record of 10 home runs hit in
a 36-15 win over Wilmington College on April 16, 2002.
Stevenson put three runs on the board in the sixth and added one in the eighth.
Alvernia freshman
John Catchmark imporved to 3-0 on the season allowing three runs on seven hits over six innings with 11 strikeouts. In all, Alvernia pitching recorded 16 strikeouts over nine innings with
Antonio Baglivo picking up four punchouts in two innings of work.
Six different Crusaders had two hits apiece with Burns, Shaffer, and Boyle also scoring two runs each.
Alvernia continues a busy week at The College of New Jersey on Wednesday.
