Reading, Pa. (Mar. 22, 2016) - Alvernia University (9-5) collected a 3-1 win over Stockton College (8-4) after dropping game one 7-0 in nonconference women's softball action Tuesday afternoon at Angelica Park.
In the nightcap, the Crusaders jumped ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the second. Junior
Amanda Turner wasted no time giving Alvernia its first run of the game, launching a solo shot to left to open the frame.
Mckenzie Miessau followed Turner with a double, and advanced to third with the help of teammate
Taylor Thomas.
Emily Carmella seized the RBI opportunity, ripping a single to plate Miessau.
Taylor Fouracre mirrored Carmella with a single of her own, giving the Crusaders runners on the corners.
Morgan Psiuk tacked on a single of her own, bringing in Carmella for the three run advantage.
Alvernia held the Osprey scoreless through six inning, surrendering Stockton's lone run in the top of the seventh. WIth two outs, Stockton threatened a rally with runners on first and third, but Fouracre induced a groundout to seal the 3-1 victory.
Fouracre picked up her fourth win of the season on the mound, scattering eight hits in a complete game effort.
In the opener, Stockton made the most of Crusader miscues, pushing across seven runs (only one earned) in two innings, including four in the 3rd and three in the 6th. Osprey pitcher Samantha Shockey limited Alvernia to just one hit, which came off the bat of
Aly Shilling.
Brittanie Wolfe and
Brittany Brown split time in the circle, with Wolfe hurling four complete innings and Brown throwing three.
The Crusaders return to conference play on Thursday, traveling to Messiah College for MAC Commonwealth action. First pitch of the double header is set for 3:30 pm.
