Blazers Top Crusaders 7-3, 6-2

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 12, 2016) - Hood College (15-9, 6-2) took a pair of wins from Alvernia University (9-15, 2-6) in MAC Commonwealth softball action Tuesday afternoon at Angelica Park.

The Blazers opened game one with a 5-0 margin in the first.

After shutting down Hood's offense through the next five innings, the Crusaders posted their first run of the game in the bottom of the sixth. Mckenzie Miessau opened the inning with a single, and quickly came around to score on an Aly Shilling double off the fence in left center.

Hood increased its margin in the top of the seventh with a two-run shot to pull ahead 7-1.

Alvernia plated two more runs in the bottom half of the seventh. With one out, Brittanie Wolfe extended the inning with a walk. Wolfe moved around to third on a Morgan Psiuk single, and scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Emily Carmella. Miessau then notched her second hit of the game, advancing Psiuk to third on a single to right. Psiuk capitalized on a Blazer miscue on the throw to third, giving Alvernia its final run.

In the nightcap, Hood took to the board first again, pulling ahead 2-0 in the first.

The Crusaders squared things up in the third. Brianna Fisher led off the inning with an infield single, and advance to third on a Psiuk sacrifice with a Blazer error. Carmella then forced another Hood error to plate Fisher. Miessau gave Alvernia its second run with a sacrifice hit to bring in Psiuk.

The Blazers reestablished their lead in the fifth, and tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth.

Brittany Brown threw eight innings in the circle for the Crusaders across both games.

Alvernia continues MAC Commonwealth play on Thursday, hosting Stevenson University in its Cancer Awareness game starting at 3:30 pm.
