Zach Weidner scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute to lead Alvernia University (1-8) to a 2-1 win over Penn State Berks (3-6) in non-conference men's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at Alvernia University.
Senior
Kevin MacFarland scored the first of the game and his first goal on the season to give the Crusaders the lead in the 63rd minute. After Weidner put the Crusaders up 2-0 with 15 minutes left, Berks forward Cole Mays scored in the 85th minute to make the game 2-1.
Junior goalie
Zach Rider made five saves in net for the Crusaders including some spectacular diving efforts in the first half that helped keep the game scoreless at the halftime break.
Alvernia stays at home for its first conference game of the season against Messiah College next Wednesday October 5th at 7:00 pm.
