McCoy's Last Second Goal Carries Alvernia Past Cabrini, 1-0

Radnor, Pa (Oct. 28, 2017) - With just nine seconds remaining in regulation, Alvernia University (12-7) senior Malorie McCoy scored the game winning goal to lift the Golden Wolves to a 1-0 win over Cabrini University (7-9) in non-conference Field Hockey action at Cabrini.

The offenses for both teams struggled to get something going in the first half. The two teams combined for just five shots, only one of which was on goal, in the first 35 minutes of play.

The Golden Wolves offensive efforts picked up in the second half with six shots on goal prior to the game-winner.

With just nine seconds remaining on the clock, Alvernia's Taylor Dorrin found McCoy. McCoy turned and sent one past Cavalier goalie, Taylor Bookman.

With one save in goal, Alvernia's Emma Beamesderfer earned her fourth shutout of the year.

Today's last second victory, Alvernia improves to a 12-7 record to close out the regular season. The Golden Wolves have won 10 of their last 11, and look to use that momentum as they head into the postseason.

With a win over Lebanon Valley early in the week, Alvernia cliched the #2 seed in the MAC Commonwealth Conference Playoffs. The Golden Wolves will face #3 Widener University on Wednesday evening, at 6:00 PM. Alvernia defeated Widener in the regular season, 5-1. #1 Messiah will host #4 Albright on Wednesday. The winners of both matchups will meet at the highest remaining seed on Saturday for the MAC Commonwealth title.
