Reading, Pa. (Nov. 11, 2017) - Junior Taylor Dorrin assisted on the first goal and converted a penalty stroke as top-seeded Alvernia University (14-8) defeated Stockton University (11-9) 2-0 in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Field Hockey semifinal Saturday at Alvernia.
Dorrin made a pass from outside the circle on the right side in the 14th minute of the game that Malorie McCoy settled and fired past the Ospreys' goalie for the early 1-0 lead. Â The Golden Wolves held the 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Seven minutes into the second half Alvernia was awarded a penalty stroke. Â Dorrin stepped up and buried the stroke for a 2-0 lead.
The Alvernia defense was able to keep Stockton from getting off a shot in the second half, and Emma Beamesderfer finished with two saves for her fifth shutout of the season.
Alvernia advances to the ECAC Final and will host the game Sunday at noon against the winner of the other semifinal between FDU-Florham and Widener.
Alvernia is making its 10th appearance in the ECAC Tournament and in the final for the fifth time.
