BOX SCORE Center Valley, Pa. (Dec. 29, 2017) - Drew University (7-4) started the second half with a 18-2 run en route to a 68-61 win over Alvernia University (3-7) Friday evening in game two of the Al Senevitis Memorial Men's Basketball Tournament hosted by DeSales University.
Alvernia clamped down on the Drew offense in the first half holding the Rangers to just 18 total points in the first 20 minutes on 8-29 (27.6 pct.) shooting.
Drew opened the second half with a layup and hit four 3s in the opening five minutes to build its own lead to seven points, 36-29 with 15:14 left in the game.
Calil Moultrie stopped the run for the Golden Wolves with a 3-point play and eight minutes later a 3-point play from senior Alex Shippen put Alvernia back on top, 46-44.
Drew hit a 3 with under four minutes to play for a four point lead then built that to seven with another 3 with under two minutes to go. Â The Rangers hit 7-of-14 3s in the second half after going 1-for-13 in the first half.
Shippen paced Alvernia with 18 points, Moultrie had 12, and Nick Youngkin had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Â Drew had a pair of players scored a game-high 20 each.
Alvernia is back at DeSales on Saturday to face Gettysburg College in the consolation game starting at 2:00 p.m.
