Reading, Pa. (Dec. 6, 2017) - No. 12 Lycoming College (8-0, 3-0) used an 8-0 run in the final two minutes to hold on a comeback attempt from Alvernia University (2-5, 0-3) in a 73-62 win Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth men's basketball action at Jack McCloskey Court.
The Golden Wolves clawed their way back into the game cutting a 17-point, second-half deficit down to five points on two occasions, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Lycoming led 55-38 after a 3-point basket from Ramadan Jennings with 11:54 left to play. Â Alvernia cut it down to nine point, 59-50, with eight and a half minutes left then a 3 from Mike Miller and a driving layup from Keon Taylor had Alvernia within five points, 63-58, with 3:53 left on the clock.
Alvernia couldn't secure a defensive rebound that would have given the home team a chance to cut the deficit to one possession and a putback from senior Chris Wallace sparked the decisive 8-0 spurt for the Warriors.
Miller scored a game-high 26 points for the Golden Wolves and became the 25th player in team history to surpass 1,000 career points. Â Nick Youngkin added 16 points for Alvernia. Â Wallace scored a team-high 14 for Lycoming.
Alvernia continues the conference schedule at Messiah on Saturday.
