Alvernia Blows Past Rivier, 30-3

Shaffer And Dubas Drive In Five Each

Ft. Myers, Fla. (Mar. 8, 2017) - Ben Dubas and Ian Shaffer drove in five runs apiece and Alvernia University (6-0) blew past Rivier University (1-3) by a 30-3 final Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Lee County Player Development Complex.

Alvernia scored eight runs in the first inning, scored 12 more in the second, and had a 26-0 lead after a six-run third.

Dubas had a 2-run double in the first and added a 3-run homer in the second before leaving for pinch hitter Colin Rieger.  Shaffer had a bases-clearing double in the first inning and a 2-run double in the second.  He and most of the rest of the starting lineup had given way to a replacement by the fourth inning.

Ryan Sheekey benefited from the run support and picked up his first win of the season in his first start throwing all nine innings and giving up three runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts.

The Alvernia offense scored 30 runs for the sixth time in the last 15 years--the most since it put up 35 vs Hilbert College on March 15, 2006.  It's the fifth time the offense has hit the 30-hit mark in a game and four shy of the record 34 also against Hilbert.

Eleven different players had multi-hit games.

The Spring Break schedule continues on Thursday against Bluffton.

Alvernia 30, Rivier 3
