Reading, Pa. (Mar. 26, 2017) - Alvernia University (14-2, 5-1) scored eight runs in the fifth inning of game one and five runs in the fourth inning of game two in a doubleheader sweep of Hood College (5-10, 1-5) Sunday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth baseball action at Angelica Park.

Ryan Sheekey allowed a run in the first inning of game one then set down 13 straight batters before turning the ball over to Antonio Baglivo for the sixth with an 11-1 lead.  Nicholas Marotta got the start in game two and allowed one run on five hits over six innings in a 6-2 win.

Leading 3-1 in the fifth inning of game one, Alvernia blew it open drawing six walks and adding three hits in the inning to plate eight runs.

Nathan Sides raised his average at the top of the lineup going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI in the opener.  Ethan Francis had the only other multi-hit game for the Crusaders going 2-for-3 at the plate to raise his season average to .500.

Alvernia broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning of game two scoring five runs on four hits and three Blazer errors.

Sides went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Cameron Coons went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs.

Evan Young pitched the seventh and allowed an unearned run.

Alvernia returns to action Wednesday hosting Gwynedd-Mercy University for a 3:30 start.
