Needed Offense Carries Alvernia To 15-9 Win Over Dominican

Dubas Rips Five Hits With Five RBIs

Ft. Myers, Fla. (Mar. 6, 2017) - Alvernia University (4-0) ripped off 22 base hits and posted a five-run sixth inning in a 15-9 win over Dominican University (1-5) Monday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at the Lee County Player Development Complex.

Junior Ben Dubas went 5-for-6 with three runs scored at five RBIs, and the Crusaders' offense had the most base hits since it racked up 22 in a 15-3 win over Messiah on April 25, 2011.

Alvernia opened the game with two runs in the first inning.  Cameron Coons--the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week--lifted a sacrifice fly to left, and Dubas ripped a run-scoring single to right.  Alvernia built a 6-1 lead with four runs in the second inning.

Dominican tied the score with five runs in the second inning getting hit by pitch three times and drawing three walks.  The Stars took an 8-6 lead with two runs in the third, and Alvernia pulled within a run on a Dillon Dunne RBI double in the top of the fifth.

After a scoreless inning for the Stars in the bottom of the fifth, Alvernia took control with five runs in the sixth.  Dubas drove in a pair of runs with a triple to left during the inning and three other players drove in a run each.

Dubas finished his day with a two-run double in the ninth.

Nicholas Marotta earned the win going three and a third innings in relief.  Nathan Sides went 4-for-6 at the plate and Coons finished the day 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

Alvernia continues the Spring Break schedule playing Swarthmore College on Tuesday evening.
