Montclair, N.J. (Apr. 17, 2017) - Montclair State University (10-17) took a 7-0 lead after three innings and cruised to a 13-2 win over #11 Alvernia University (23-6-2) Monday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Yogi Berra Stadium.
Matt Briner, who went 3-for-5 at the plate for the Crusaders, drove in a run in the top of the fourth to get Alvernia on the board, but Montclair State came back with a run in the bottom of the inning and five more in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Briner had the only multi-hit day for the guests. Six other players had a hit apiece including
Nathan Sides who improved his hit streak to 12 games.
Jarrad Graver went four and a third innings for the Crusaders and suffered the loss.
Alvernia heads home to continue a streak of three games in three days hosting Immaculata on Tuesday.
The Crusaders return to the conference schedule this Friday hosting Stevenson. With two series left in conference play, Alvernia holds a one-game lead over Arcadia for the top spot in the MAC Commonwealth.
