John Catchmark tossed a complete game shutout in a 3-0 win in game one as #24 Alvernia University (26-11-2, 15-6) split a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader with Arcadia University (29-11, 14-7) Saturday afternoon at Angelia Park.
Catchmark struck out 11 batters as the Crusaders locked up the top seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championships with the game one win. Â
Ben Dubas homered in the second to open the scoring and Colin Reiger drove in a pair with a bases loaded single in the sixth.
Alvernia will face fourth-seeded Lebanon Valley College on Thursday on the first day of the Championships. Â Arcadia is the second seed and will face third-seeded Widener in the other Thursday game.
Catchmark limited the Arcadia offense to just three hits on 96 pitches and improved to 8-2 on the season. Â Dubas and
Dillon Dunne had two hits apiece.
Arcadia scored two runs in the first inning and another in the second in a 4-1 win in game two. Â Alvernia scored a run in the bottom of the first on a
Franco Esposito single.
