Widener Baseball to Host Salute to Service Game Against Alvernia on Saturday

Fans Encouraged To Bring Donations For Support

Chester, Pa. (Apr. 7, 2017) - The Widener Baseball team is working with Operation Gratitude to host a Salute To Service game when the Pride hosts Alvernia University for a doubleheader on Saturday.

All fans attending the doubleheader are encouraged to support the cause.  Widener students will be accepting the following donations during the game:

• toothbrushes
• travel-sized toothpaste
• deodorant
• shaving cream
• hand/foot warmers
• moist towelettes
• cash

The service endeavor is being organized by junior pitcher Matt Stranix and a group of other Widener students as part of a class project. Throughout the course of the afternoon, students will be in attendance accepting donations and collecting items which will be sent to Operation Gratitude. The organization will then create care packages to transport to troops overseas. In return for a donation, rubber wristbands which say "Widener Baseball Salute to Service" will be handed out to everyone supporting the effort.

Furthermore, four Phillies tickets will be raffled off with proceeds benefiting Operation Gratitude as well. They will be sold for $1 dollar each or seven tickets for $5 dollars. The winner of the tickets will be announced at the conclusion of the first game.
