Reading, Pa. (May 15, 2017) - Alvernia University has earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Championships and will face RIT at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the first game at the Mid-Atlantic Regional hosted by the MAC at PEOPLESBank Stadium.
Alvernia (28-13-2), making its 12th appearance in the NCAA Championships, is the #5 seed in the Mid-Atlantic Regional.
Alvernia advanced to the championship round of the MAC Commonwealth Championship where it fell to Arcadia, 8-4 in the first game of the series. The Knights earned the automatic qualifier for the conference and will be the #2 seed in the New England Regional.
#1 SEED: Johns Hopkins (36-6) is the top seed in the Mid-Atlantic Regional. The Blue Jays went 17-1 in conference play during the regular season and swept through the Centennial Championship beating Ursinus College, 4-3, in the final.
#2 SEED: Shenandoah (36-8) earned an at-large bid out of the ODAC. The Hornets were eliminated from the conference championship by Washington & Lee in the losers bracket final.
#3 SEED: Wheaton (Mass.) earned an at-large bid from the NEWMAC. The Lyons were knocked ouf of the conference championship by Babson in the semifinals.
#4 SEED: RIT (33-7) is into the regional as the champions of the Liberty League. The Tigers went 3-0 in the championship defeated Clarkson 9-4 in the final.
#6 SEED: Elizabethtown (26-15) enters the regional as champions of the Landmark Conference. The Blue Jays defeated Susquehanna University 5-1 in a winner-take-all final.
#7 SEED: SUNY-Maritime (26-11) earned the automatic qualifier bid for the Skyline Conference.
#8 SEED: Lesley (21-17-1) won the New England Collegiate Conference beating Mitchell College 10-6 in the final.
